Harold Brighouse

(1882-1958). English novelist, critic and playwright. Hobson’s Choice, by Harold Brighouse, was first performed in 1915. Since then it has rarely been out of production somewhere in the world. A fine film version, starring a young John Mills, is still available. The play is set in Salford, near Manchester, in the 1880s. It has a strong story line and richly-drawn characters.
